After interviewing about six candidates the Mets had narrowed down their possible future GM to two people: Josh Byrnes and Sandy Alderson. Today sources are saying that former Athletics GM Sandy Alderson has gotten the job and a formal announcement of the hiring could possibly take place on Friday (the first off day of the World Series)
Alderson was The Athletics GM from 1983 to 1997 until he stepped aside to make room for Billy Beane. Since then he has spent 8 years as Major League Baseball's VP of baseball operations, 4 years as the Padres CEO, and has most recently been investigating drug use and identity fraud among Dominican prospects.
At the age of 62 he has been around baseball long enough to have had Hall of Famers such as Rickey Henderson and Reggie Jackson play under him. He has served as a mentor to many current baseball executives such as Billy Beane and Kevin Towers.
For Mets fans he may be the figure to turn around the franchise.
